Chittagong port gates to get scanners

news-details

Government of Bangladesh is doing everything to transform Chittagong port into a digital hub for business, says Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury.

Scanners will be installed at every gate of Chittagong sea port used for import and export, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury has said.

These scanners are being installed for a flawless security system, he said while visiting a container terminal in Chittagong on Sunday.

“A group is conspiring against installing scanners at Chittagong port gates so that government’s digital Bangladesh dream does not come true,” he noted.

The state minister further said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is doing everything to transform Chittagong port into a digital hub for business.

Land ports, including Mongla, will soon get scanners too, he added.

Besides, according to the agreement with India, Indian ships can use Chittagong port and from there, goods can be transported to the northeastern states of India by road, said Chowdhury.

The trial runs of Indian ships are being conducted at Chittagong port, and more will follow.

Later, in this regard, the state minister mentioned: “Bangladesh is a humanitarian state. We got this country in exchange for the blood of 3 million martyrs. This country always follows Bangabandhu's foreign policy, which is friendship with all.”

This year, the Chittagong seaport became the 64th busiest port among the top 100 container ports across the world.

The ranks have been detected in terms of annual container handling in 2021, according to Lloyd's List, one of the oldest shipping journals in the world.

In 2020, the port held 67th place on the list.
